Mimi's live act was a combination of her own songs, Richard Fariña's songs, and songs by contemporary singer-songwriters, many of whom were friends of hers. Less frequently she sang traditional folksongs. Many people will be surprised to find that Mimi had a large repertoire of original songs that were never released on an album. The songs listed below were compiled from live albums, fans' setlists and memories, published reviews of her shows, and bootlegs.
|
Self-written songs, released on albums:
After the Sugar Harvest (co-written with Tom Jans) Best of Friends Big Party Charlotte Deep Feelings In the Quiet Morning Letter to Jesus Madman (co-written with Tom Jans) Mary Call Old Woman Reach Out
|
Richard Fariña songs:
Children of Darkness Pack Up Your Sorrows Quiet Joys of Brotherhood Swallow Song

Despite her ambition to establish a reputation on her own, Mimi never really
enjoyed performing solo. She often spoke of the loneliness of the touring
musician, and very often employed at least one back-up musician or sought a
partner. Aside from Richard Fariña, Tom Jans, and Joan Baez, some of Mimi's
co-performers were:
Banana - by far her most frequent collaborator; he played guitar, bass and keyboards
on many of her gigs from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. See Banana's page for his memories.
PERFORMING PARTNERS:
Bill Amatneek - played string bass with Mimi on some of her late 1970s-early 1980s
performances, and was also part of the house band for Bread & Roses' early fundraisers. He recalls his work with Mimi in
his book Acoustic Stories.
Carol McComb - most famous for her duet with Kathy Larisch as Kathy & Carol, McComb
toured with Mimi in the early 1970s. People who saw Mimi and Carol together recall
that they sounded incredible together. Carol McComb has recorded several solo
albums.
Julie Payne - was another member of The Committee. They can be seen very
briefly (too briefly, alas) performing "Tears of Fire" in the film
Celebration at Big Sur. They toured together, then Julie embarked on
her acting career.
Richard Greene - formerly of Seatrain. Backed up Mimi circa 1977.
Martine Habib - also sang with Mimi in the early 1970s. She recorded one
solo album, and her voice was sometimes compared to Joan Baez.
Hoyt Axton - a good friend of Mimi; they often performed together in the 1970s.
John Guth - frequently accompanied Mimi on second guitar on her east coast
gigs in the eighties.
Paul Winter, Peter Rowan, Richard Greene, and John Sebastian performed with Mimi at the
Rolling Coconut Revue concert in Japan in 1977.
